Snorkeling

Snorkeling is amazing right off the beach. You can see all types of fish, coral and turtles.

Equipment

Snorkels, masks and fins are available from the dive shop for free for one hour per person per day. You have to bring a US$50 deposit (100% refundable) or your credit card for an imprint. The equipment is in good condition and is comfortable and reliable. However, it is a good idea to get your own equipment that you are comfortable with and you can use it for as long as you wish.

Precautions

Never touch the coral with your hands. Never stand up on the coral, you will kill it and it will take many years to re-grow. Also, never remove coral from the ocean. If you want a souvenier, watch for pieces washed up on the shore in the late evening or before the beach is raked in the morning.

Snorkeling locations

The most popular snorkeling location is off the pier. There's a ladder going down into the water from the pier so access is easy.

There's also a great area at the north end of the beach. Walk along the beach until you come to a rock that looks like an anvil. Many people have seen turtles in this area, especially in the early morning amidst the seaweed.

Tours

Dressel divers offers some tours to other reefs for US$34, night snorkeling is US$59 and 1/2 day snorkel trips to a cenote and Yal-Ku Lagoon is US$74.
