The resort has three main sections:
- Barcelo Maya Beach & Barcelo Maya Caribe (opened in 1999);
- Barcelo Maya Colonial & Barcelo Maya Tropical (opened in 2005);
- Barcelo Maya Palace (opened in 2007)
Palace
Barcelo Maya Palace is now open! After a bit of a bumpy start, it has started to prove itself as a gorgeous, sophisticated and luxurious hotel. Guests booked at Palace have exclusive use of all of Palace's facilities. Guests staying at Beach/Caribe/Tropical/Colonial do not have access to any amenities of Palace. This site is not yet updated to include Palace ammenities, check the discussion board for up to date Palace information.
Colonial & Tropical
Visitors staying at Colonial & Tropical have access to all areas of the Tropical/Colonial and the Beach & Caribe sections. Colonial and Tropical are the same resort. It doesn't matter which side you get booked into, certain tour companies will book one or the other. You have full access to either side.
Beach & Caribe
Visitors staying at Beach & Caribe have access to most of the resort except the air-conditioned buffets and à la carte restaurants at Colonial & Tropical . Beach and Caribe are also the exact same resort. Both have access to each other's amenities so don't worry about whether you stay in the Beach or the Caribe sides.
