There is a doctor available at the resort 24 hours a day. The medical station is located in the Colonial Plaza. The doctor speaks excellent English and will provide medication.
The cost is usually reasonable, must be paid in cash and may be claimed on your travel insurance. It's worthwhile having a spare US$150 or so in case of such a need.
If you get sick on vacation, please see the doctor immediately. There's no sense on paying all that money just to be miserable on vacation.
Ambulance service
There is an ambulance onsite. If necessary it will take you to Hospiten, a new full service hospital in Playa del Carmen. The ambulance is fully equiped to handle emergencies.
Defibrillator
There is a defibrillator in the medical station and one in the ambulance.
