The weather is typically hot and sunny with slight variations from season to season. It is always comfortable to walk around with flip flops and a swimsuit or take a plunge in the ocean. November to March can be a bit cool in the evenings and May to September can be very hot and humid.
The weather forecast is posted in each lobby, usually printed from a weather website.

Hurricanes
Hurricane season officially runs from June 1 to November 30. This means that there is a possibility of hurricanes during this season. However because kids are out of school and prices are a bit lower, there are always visitors to the resort during this season.
Barcelo Maya is built to withstand a Category 5 hurricane. This means that guests can stay in their rooms during a hurricane and do not have to be evacuated to a shelter.
This was put to the test in July, 2005 with Hurricane Emily. All guests remained in their rooms. They were provided with updates, instructions and food. The resort took a direct hit but no one was injured (staff or guests). By the first day, all cleanup was complete. Within a couple of days the majority of the damage was repaired, major damage was repaired in a few weeks and the resort was accepting new guests within a couple of days.
